Émilie d’Orgeix, an architectural historian and member of the Scientific Steering Committee of the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine, invites us to explore the history of cities through the lens of military architecture. Her research, carried out as part of the ‘Ville Métabolisme’ Chair, demonstrates how 17th and 18th century cities were shaped by the flows and relationships they maintained with their surrounding territory. This perspective shifts the focus on architecture and heritage, encouraging us to view the city as a living system in a state of perpetual transformation.
