To mark Milan Design Week, PCA-STREAM presents designer Julia Daka, founder of the SADAKA association and co-founder of Cause, who has been in residence at the agency for over a year. Her work, situated at the intersection of fashion, art, architecture and design, draws inspiration from African, Swahili and Creole cultures. In this interview, she reflects on how she has established her position within fields that remain largely male-dominated and Eurocentric, and presents her collection Liminal, which weaves together material legacies from Africa, island territories and Europe. Her visit to our offices and her discussions with our teams are part of an approach unique to the agency, which involves drawing on other imaginaries to shift our practices and continually broaden our design frameworks.
